Sam Masters and Josh Pickering (pictured) will ride for Edinburgh Monarchs next season.

Masters has averaged close to 11 in the ten matches he has raced before last night’s SGB Championship clash at home to Newcastle Diamonds.

Pickering has added almost a point on his average this season and club bosses think he can make further improvements.

Masters sparkled as Edinburgh Monarchs closed their SGB Championship season by cutting down Diamonds.

The Aussie racer powered to a 12-point maximum in the 54-36 win.

Skipper Ricky Wells was also prominent with 12 points but from five outings.

Experienced Ulrich Ostergaard was best for Newcastle with 15 points but no other visiting rider could reach double-figures.

Matthew Wethers, one of three former Monarchs in the Newcastle side, was next best with eight points.

The writing was on the wall after six races as Edinburgh led 26-10 but Diamonds hit back with a 5-1 in Heat Seven.

Monarchs slammed the door shut with solid riding during the rest of the meeting.
