Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault which took place in Old Dalkeith Road, near the Cameron Toll shopping centre, about 11.50pm on Sunday 5th August 2018.
A 55-year-old man was at a bus stop near the Craigmillar Castle Park Cemetery when he was approached by a man who engaged him in conversation.
The victim was then struck in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. He attended Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he received treatment for a serious facial injury.
The suspect is described as white, aged about 40, 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build, clean shaven and spoke with a Scottish accent.
Detective Sergeant Mark Lumsden of Gayfield CID said: “This was a shocking attack and our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault continue.
“We are keen to speak to any witnesses that may have seen the suspect, particularly a cyclist who was in the area at the time.”
