Last month’s meeting covered police matters with residents being advised by police to keep valuable items such as sat navs out of sight to deter car thieves. The community council also heard that there could be a reduction in the 40mph speed limit on Comiston Road, that  the newly opened Boroughmuir High School is already facing overcrowding and that an annexe is already planned. Conservative councillor Nick Cook who was in attendance at the meeting is reported as saying that the projected numbers of pupils in the Boroughmuir catchment were inaccurate and this had been known about for some time.

The council has decided to ban A boards across the city and some members of the Morningside Traders Association have expressed the view that this will create a sterile environment in the area. They believe that local shops are affected by the high cost of on street parking.

The area is affected by possible developments on two separate sites, the Astley Ainslie Hospital and the Midmar Paddock. The community councillors reported that they would have a further meeting of their planning subdivision to try and work out what an acceptable masterplan might look like, and residents are invited to join a new Friends of Midmar Paddock group to protect the green space.
