Fourth-placed Edinburgh Monarchs entertain Workington Comets on Friday (tapes-up 7.30pm) hoping to continue the form which hammered Glasgow Tigers at Armadale last Friday.

Workington, who are sixth but have only raced 13 matches, have been the team of the season so far according to a number of observers.

Comets have already won at Armadale in the Championship Shield and they already collected four road wins so far this term.

Former Edinburgh racer Dan Bewley is ruled out after suffering severe injuries in a crash at his home track last Saturday, a broken leg, arm and wrist.

Monarchs’ team manager Alex Harkess said: “In some of their recent matches Dan has been their star.

“They have already been to our place and won this season, so they might think they can do it again. We’ll see, but I think we will be fine.”

Glasgow Tigers will operate rider replacement for crocked racer Nathan Greaves as they entertain SGB Championship rivals Newcastle Diamonds at Ashfield on Friday (7.30pm).

Craig Cook, the former Edinburgh Monarchs skipper, returns at No 1 after Grand Prix duty against the Tyneside team who are eighth in the 11-strong table.

That’s a boost as seventh-placed Tigers aim for a home win to boost their play-off chances and provide a lifeline to their slim title chances.
Jack Thomas insists Glasgow’s play-off race isn’t over.

Tigers must win their remaining home matches and pick something up on the road with seven teams split by just 11 points at the top.

He said: “We’ve got a really good team. Craig Cook has come in and he’s a great rider and I think he’ll give us a good push to get a place in the play-offs.”
