LIDL have begun their first Scottish Gin Festival which involves the company in a deal worth about £180,000 with artisan gin makers across Scotland.
The new collection includes gin from Edinburgh, Shetland, Orkney, Perthshire and Glasgow.
From Edinburgh Generosity, the social enterprise gin whose profits support projects involving disadvantaged young adults across Scotland is only one of the new producers featuring on Lidl’s shelves.
Colin Campbell, Brand Manager for Ginerosity said: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Lidl for the first time, and be included as part of the line-up for their inaugural Scottish Gin Festival. This means we can bring out ethical gin to more gin-lovers nationwide, while also helping young adults access education, training and employment.
“Our gin is a beautiful London dry gin, full of character and made with 10 ethically sourced botanicals. Produced by the acclaimed Summerhall Distillery in Edinburgh, it’s a gin that is beautifully balanced and accessible; it goes superbly in a gin and tonic, but also forms a delightful additional to any cocktail, with its ethical heart providing the perfect finish!”
Four of these are new to supermarkets and you can also buy a Deluxe Botanical Set along with new selections of tonic waters to try out at home in cocktails.
Scotland is now producing more gin with 70% of the UK’s gin supply being produced north of the border, but it is also better gin owing to the smaller craft producers.
