Neil Lennon has urged his players to keep up the ‘brilliant’ form that resulted in victory over champions-elect Celtic at Easter Road last Saturday.

Hibs face on-form Kilmarnock at home this afternoon knowing that three points are vital in the race for second place after Aberdeen beat Hearts last night.

That result leaves Hibs six points behind the Dons with a game in hand. Victory today would narrow the gap to three points ahead of next week’s clash at Pittodrie.

Speaking at his press conference yesterday, Lennon said: “I said before the split that we’d probably need to win four of the games and we’ve won one, maybe unexpectedly, but we played brilliantly. I said to the players today that there’s no point in beating Celtic if you can’t carry that on and not get carried away so we’re in a good vein of form.

“We’ve got a couple of players back for the weekend as well so that will add to the strength that we have in depth but there’s still a long way to go. We’re not getting too ahead of ourselves.”

Earlier this week Lennon was nominated for the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year after a successful season at Easter Road and he gave credit to the players for their part in the honour.

He commented: “There’s no question that the quality and the competitive nature of the league has been dictated by the calibre of manager that’s now working in Scotland and it can only auger well for the game.

“To be nominated in the four is very pleasing from my point of view so its testament to the season that we’ve had and the players have put me in this position.”
