Edinburgh Monarchs face Glasgow Tigers in the Scottish Cup in a mouth-watering opening to the new season.
The arch rivals have agreed to reintroduce the event with the first-leg at Glasgow’s Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Friday, 23 March.
The return is at Armadale Stadium on Friday, 30 March and tapes-up for both fixtures is 7.30pm and if the meetings are well-supported then they will become regular dates on the calendar.
The clubs hope fans will attend both matches and special transport arrangements will be laid on to take visiting supporters to the away leg.
John Campbell, Edinburgh’s co-promoter, said: “There is nothing better than a local derby to get the supporters tingling.”
Glasgow spokesman Gerry Facenna said: “What better way to begin than with a visit from the Monarchs.
“We hope to have a bumper crowd to open our season with the same at Armadale the following Friday.”
Both clubs are optimistic that these exciting season opening Scottish derby matches will be well supported.
And, if this happens, then the Clubs will look to place the Scottish Cup back on the fixture list for all future seasons.
