Police are investigating following a serious road traffic collision at the junction of Lansdowne Crescent and Palmerston Place which happened around 7pm last night.

A heavily pregnant 31-year-old woman was involved in a collision with a number 26 Lothian Buses vehicle as she crossed the junction and the bus turned right into Lansdowne Crescent.

The woman sustained a number of serious head injuries.  Police and emergency services attended and the 31-year-old was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, where she remains in a critical condition.  Her unborn child is believed to be unharmed.

The junction was closed for one hour as police conducted their initial collision investigations.  Officers are now appealing for witnesses and would urge anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Roger Park of Edinburgh’s Road Policing Unit said:  “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone involved.

“We are currently investigating this collision and we are eager to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Palmerston Place area around 7pm on Wednesday, January 24, and saw this collision, to get in touch with us at their earliest convenience.”
