The Scottish Police Authority (SPA) has announced the appointment of Kenneth Hogg as its new Chief Officer.
Mr Hogg joins the SPA on a 12-month secondment from the Scottish Government, where he is currently Director for Local Government and Communities.
The appointment follows a decision by the SPA Board in August to refocus the SPA’s most senior officer role on its core governance and accountable officer responsibilities, and with its operational responsibilities for Forensic Services reporting directly to the Authority’s Board.
Mr Hogg has over 25 years of experience in the civil service in Scotland, including senior roles in policy areas dealing with policing and security, local government, and health.
He will take up post on 13 November, ahead of the departure of outgoing SPA Chief Executive John Foley.

He has a strong track-record in public service reform, financial accountability, engaging diverse stakeholders, encouraging participation and collaboration, and motivating and developing strong teams in high-profile areas of public service. All those capabilities fit well with the demands that come with the Chief Officer role, and it is of additional benefit that he has first-hand experience of the reforms to policing which underpin the structure and organisations we have today.

John graduated from Telford College in 2010 with an HNC in Practical Journalism and since then he worked for the North Edinburgh News, The Southern Reporter, the Irish News Review and The Edinburgh Reporter. In addition he has been published in the Edinburgh Evening News and the Hibernian FC Programme.
