Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident on Causewayside on Friday afternoon
At around 2.15pm a 12 year old girl was at a bus stop outside Summerhall when a man in a silver car approached her and spoke to her before driving off.
He then returned, getting out of the car and approached her on foot – she screamed and when a man came to her aid the driver got back into his car and drove away.
The driver is described as an Asian male with black hair.
Detective Sergeant Andy MacRae of Gayfield CID said: “I would like to thank the man who came to help the girl who was frightened by being approached by someone she didn’t know – I’m keen to speak to him or anyone who was in the area of the south east corner of The Meadows on Friday afternoon and may have witnessed this incident.”
