Gary Havelock believes Berwick Bandits have finally clicked and the former world champion is convinced the season will be remembered for the standard of racing.
Saturday’s opponents are Workington Comets and Havelock warned them to beware as lowly Bandits are not throwing in the towel.
The team manager said: “The season should have started in August. If it had we’d be flying up the league table.”
Elsewhere, Ben Barker has been called-up by Newcastle Diamonds when they visit one of his former clubs, Glasgow Tigers, on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Redcar Bears star, who had a spell with Berwick, helped shoot down Edinburgh Monarchs 52-41 on Teesside on Thursday.
He top scored with 11 points gained from three wins and a second place in his five outings.
Truro-born Barker guests for a Tyneside team minus top racer Robert Lambert and they are determined to claim a glory double over Tigers after their 53-39 victory at Newcastle on Sunday.
Diamonds team manager George English said the match showed the real Newcastle and he wants an action replay from his men.
Glasgow have called in Edinburgh’s Josh Pickering to guest in place of No 2 Dan Bewley who is on duty with Great Britain’s under-21 side.
And Tigers are looking for a win after their toughest spell of the campaign, losing four away meetings in a row and watching Sheffield Tigers build up a sizeable lead in the Championship race.
Tapes to up at Berwick and Ashfield at 7pm.
