Impressive early-season form has impressed Rye House who have signed the New Zealand-born star

Red-hot Ricky Wells has been confirmed as a Rye House Rockets rider.

The New Zealand-born racer replaces released winter signing Davey Watt in the SGB Premiership side’s line-up.

The 25-year-old comes in after a strong start to the season in the SGB Championship with Edinburgh Monarchs.

Wells will double-up with Edinburgh and Rye House co-promoter Steve Jenson said: “Ricky has a proven record.
“He impressed us last season when he guested at Glasgow Tigers and also when he visited Rye House with his attitude, professionalism and his approach to his machinery.

“He left a mark on us then which we didn’t forget.”

Meanwhile, another Edinburgh rider has also put pen-to-paper for Premiership club Wolverhampton Wolves along with a former Monarchs favourite.

German rider Mark Riss and experienced former Coventry title winner Rory Schlein replace Edinburgh’s Max Clegg and Polish racer Adam Skornicki respectively.

Promoter Chris Van Straaten said: “Mark Riss has a lot of potential and we felt we had to make this move to strengthen us at reserve.

“In Rory Schlein we have a rider who has the experience and ability to score points in the main body of our team.

“We were close to signing him in the winter but we are pleased to have him on board now.”

Meanwhile, pointless Berwick Bandits host Scunthorpe Scorpions on Saturday at, 7pm and team manager Gary Havelock said: “We have yet to score a League point and were painfully close last week (against Glasgow).

“I have a good feeling. The team have had enough of this losing stuff and want to go away on Saturday night with some league points in the bag.”

Other action this weekend featuers Glasgow Tigers who are preparing for the visit of Workington Comets in the league on Sunday (5pm) while Edinburgh Monarchs travel to Scunthorpe Scorpions (5.30pm).
