Glasgow Tigers star Richard Lawson won British speedway’s traditional curtain raiser.

The Cumbrian powered to victory in the Ben Fund Bonanza title, beating former Grand Prix star Chris Harris, Tigers team-mate Richie Worrall and Edinburgh Monarchs racer Ricky Wells in a hotly-contested final.

The 31-year-old said: “I wasn’t totally happy with the way I was riding but it came together in that last one (heat).”
