Police are appealing for witnesses following a series of housebreakings in Longniddry and Newtongrange.

Between 7 a.m. and 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday 7th February, four homes in Canty Grove were broken into and various items were stolen from within.

Officers believe these incidents are all linked and are conducting inquiries to trace those responsible.

Two further housebreakings in Midlothian are also being investigated to establish if the same suspects were involved.

At around 8.05 p.m. on Tuesday a house in Redwood Grove, Newtongrange, was entered. However, nothing appears to have been stolen.

A second call was then received from the occupiers of a property in Redwood Walk, Newtongrange, at around 7.40 a.m. on Wednesday 8th February after their home was broken into and jewellery was stolen.

Anyone with information in relation to any of these offences is asked to come forward.

Sergeant Derek MacDonald from Tranent Police Station said: “Given the proximity of the housebreakings in Longniddry, we believe the same individuals are responsible and as part of these inquiries we’re looking into whether they also carried out the Midlothian break-ins.

“We would ask anyone who saw any suspicious activity within Canty Grove, Redwood Grove or Redwood Walk between Tuesday and Wednesday to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also urged to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
