Police have released CCTV images of three males who they wish to trace in connection with a serious assault on another male in the city centre. The males were observed in the vicinity of the attack in the company of two young females.

The incident took place around 3.30 a.m. on Saturday 24th September 2016 on South Clerk Street. A 39-year-old man was knocked on the ground and sustained a serious injury. The police have been continuing with their inquiries to trace those responsible.

The males pictured are of interest to the investigation and anyone who recognises them is asked to come forward. In particular, police are keen to speak to the male shown in the second image.

He is described as having dark hair and of larger build, approximately 5ft 8-9ins tall and about 18-19 years old. At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey sweatshirt.

Detective Sergeant Adam Brown from the CID at Gayfield Police Station said:

“This was an unprovoked assault which resulted in the victim sustaining an injury with a protracted recovery period and has significantly disrupted his daily life since.

​”Anyone who recognises any of the males or who witnessed the assault is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.”
