A 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman are expected to appear before Livingston Sheriff Court tomorrow in connection with the death of three-month-old Sophia Williams.

Sophia was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh on May 30 after taking unwell within a facility for homeless families in West Main Street in Broxburn and sadly passed away six days later.

Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton of the Major Investigations Team said: “An 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the death of a three-month-old baby girl from Broxburn.

“Sophia Williams passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016, within the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

“A subsequent investigation was launched into her death, led by the Major Investigations Team (MIT), and as a result of this effort two people have now been charged.

“They are expected to appear before Livingston Sheriff Court on Friday, October 28.”
