Three Midlothian police officers raised £2,200 for the Royal Hospital for Sick Kids in Edinburgh by walking the 62.5 miles of the St Cuthbert’s Way.
Constable Stevie Fisher and Sergeant Simon Allan walked for just over 24 hours between Melrose in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Isle in Northumberland.
With colleague, Constable Glen Sives as the support driver, meeting them at staging points along the route with refreshments, changes of clothing and footwear, the officers continued through the night.
Stevie Fisher who works in CID in Dalkeith said: “Unfortunately, we finished just over our 24 hour target time around 7.30 am on 30th July, however we are delighted to have raised £2,200 for Edinburgh’s Sick Kids.
“Knowing our efforts will be put towards the cost of new equipment to help the young patients makes the effort well worthwhile.”
Community Fundraiser for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, Victoria Watson said: “We are incredibly grateful to have received such an amazing donation from Police Scotland.
“Walking 100 kilometers in 24 hours is a huge challenge to undertake but thanks to the efforts of Simon, Stevie and driver Glen, they have succeeded and the money raised will help to transform the experiences of children and young people in hospital as well as in other healthcare services in the community.”
