Police are appealing for witnesses after two bicycles were stolen between 12 p.m. on Wednesday and 8.30 a.m. on Thursday at the Mortonhall Campsite.
A German couple had been staying on a pitch left the bikes locked up while they visited the city centre.
The following morning they noticed both had been stolen and contacted police.
Anyone who can assist officers with their inquiries is asked to come forward.
The first bike was a Cube Sterio 120, 29 inch frame, light green and black in colour with 30 gears, front and rear suspension and front and rear disk breaks.
The second bike was a Cube WLS Sting 120, 29 inch frame, blue and orange in colour with 30 gears, front and rear suspension and front and rear disk breaks.
Constable Simon Ramsay from Howdenhall Police Station said: “Both bicycles were worth 1500 Euros each and the victims are very upset as a result of this theft.
“Anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the campsite, or who can help us identify those responsible should contact police immediately.
“There is a possibility that whoever took the bikes will look to sell them on and if you are approached by anyone asking you to buy one then please do not proceed with the sale and get in touch with us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
