After a dramatic weekend of football action, the 2016 William Hill Scottish Cup final will be contested between Hibernian and Rangers.

On Saturday Hibs defeated Dundee United 4-2 after a penalty shoot out. The game ended goalless after extra time then John McGinn, Paul Hanlon, Martin Boyle and Jason Cummings scored the decisive penalties although the hero in the eyes of the Hibs’ fans was goalkeeper Conrad Logan who made several terrific saves in open play then two penalty kicks during the shoot out.

The following day Rangers emerged victorious at the national stadium. Former Hibs’ striker Kenny Miller opened the scoring for the light blues however Celtic fought back and the game ended 2-2 after extra time.

Another former Hibs player Scott Brown missed an important spot kick and Rangers eventually secured a place in the final 5-4 on penalties.

After the game, former Hearts’ midfielder Jason Holt told Rangers TV: “It was incredible. What a great day for everyone – the team, the fans and the club in general. We’re all delighted to get that outcome and it’s a great feeling.

“I thought we were the better team and thoroughly deserved to win the game. It obviously went to penalties but even there the boys did so well.”

“The support was unbelievable, and we’ve had that the whole season. The boys really thrive off it.

“Our character and work ethic and team ethic has been there all season. We proved that again when Celtic came back into the game twice, but we kept going and got our rewards.

“We have games left in the league, but we will look forward to the final and be fully prepared for it when it comes around.”
