Road Policing Officers were out on high-visibility patrol across the east of Scotland over the Easter weekend as part of their ongoing motorcycle safety campaign.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, Trunk Roads Policing Units were positioned across main arterial routes within Forth Valley, The Lothians and Scottish Borders and Edinburgh to monitor for dangerous or inappropriate driving and riding and offer safety advice to motorbike users.
Several bikers were stopped and spoken to with no offences noted during this time and each individual was provided with appropriate information on safe riding practises.
While on the A84 and A85 police stopped a HGV lorry driver, who will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for careless driving.
Three more motorists were also stopped on these roads and will be reported for offences including speeding and a contravention of solid white lines.
Inspector Roddy Macmillan from the Trunks Road Policing Unit said: “The poor weather conditions were not ideal for motorcyclists looking to get out and about during the Easter weekend, but a small number still braved the wind and rain and I am delighted that we were able to speak with these individuals and offer them relevant road safety advice.
“The purpose of Operation Zenith is not only to educate motorbike users on how they can stay safe and to enforce any offences we observe, but to improve other motorists’ awareness of the increased number of motorcycles on the road and to ensure cars, vans and lorries are driven appropriately.
“Our campaign will continue and everyone who utilises the road network should be left in no doubt, that whenever we witness dangerous, inconsiderate, antisocial or illegal practises or behaviour, we will take the appropriate action.
