You can golf for charity this June in the Barnardo’s Scotland 2016 golf day on 22 June 2016.

The charity will mark its 150th anniversary year when players tee off at Archerfield Links in East Lothian.

Events co-ordinator for the children’s charity, Jordyn Armstrong says: “We’re really excited to be heading back toArcherfield Links this year – it’s such a great course that everyone always enjoys. Our golf day is a great way to network, socialise and can also be a fun teambuilding event, all the while contributing to a worthy cause. To mark Barnardo’s 150th year of supporting vulnerable children and young people, the 2016 golf day is a great opportunity for golfing enthusiasts to help us raise vital funds to allow us to be there always for those families who need us.”

To register your team of four, please visit www.barnardos.org.uk/golfday, call 0131 446 7021 or emailjordyn.armstrong@barnardos.org.uk for further information.  Entry for Archerfield Links members is £75 per person, and non-members £175 per person.

Something a little bit different for you – and out of town but within easy reach of the capital!

The Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema 2016 takes place between Wednesday 16 March and Sunday 20 March 2016.

This is a silent cinema festival with red carpet glamour in a lovely cinema which is apparently Scotland’s oldest purpose built picture house.

Here is the full programme. We particularly like the look of the outdoor film at the Steam Railway!

Staying on the theme of films, the newest cinema in Edinburgh is the New Town Community Cinema at 33 Barony Street. Owned and run by Scottish Historic Buildings Trust who are funding the cinema in the hope that the community can buy and run the building. So put your money where your mouth is and go along!

This Friday 12 February there is an afternoon film beginning at 2.30pm.  ‘The Book of Life’ tells the story of a young man who is torn between what his family want for him and what his heart tells him to do. Face-painting with a difference – they will paint sugar skulls on your little dears! You are advised to arrive early.

Later in the evening they are showing Amelie from 7:00pm but before that you will be treated to some music from local cellist, Gage Ehmann.
