Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses and have issued security advice after four break-ins occurred in the past week.

The first break-in occurred on Sunday 3 January on Linlithgow Terrace, Tranent, where entry was gained to a property and a key was stolen.

A few hours later, between 6pm and 7.50pm, a car was broken into on the same street and a wallet was stolen.

The third break-in happened on Monday 4 January on Clayknowes Drive, Musselburgh, between 4pm and 8.15pm.

Entry was gained via the rear of the property and various items were stolen, as well as a three-figure sum of cash and a silver Honda Civic registered SL58 GS0.

The fourth break-in happened on Wednesday 6 January on Kings Road, Musselburgh, around 2pm.

A purse was stolen from within a parked car.

Community Sergeant Laura White, of Tranent Police Station, said: “The thought of an intruder gaining access to your home or car is distressing and we are keen to trace the individuals responsible.

“I’d like to remind everyone in our community to be vigilant to any suspicious behaviour and to ensure all property is locked and secure.

“Do not leave anything on display and take all valuable property with you when locking your car.

“Permanently mark any valuables that you use in the vehicle, such as a Sat Nav, with your postcode and house number/name. You can also register all of your equipment at www.immobilise.com.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
