Police in East Lothian have arrested and charged a 51-year-old man following an attempted housebreaking in Tranent.

Officers were called to an address on Edinburgh Road at around 12.15pm on Wednesday 13 January following a report that a man was attempting to break into a property.

The 51-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday 14 January.

Sergeant Laura White of Tranent Police Station said: “The homeowners provided vital assistance in helping us trace the suspect near to the Meadowmill area.

“Housebreaking is a deeply personal crime and on each occasion we will use all resources at our disposal to pursue offenders.
