An investigation is underway following the death of a 53-year-old woman in a house fire in Edinburgh this morning.

Emergency services including appliances from Crewe Toll and McDonald Road were called to Ferry Road this morning just after 1.00am.

Firefighters were able to get the woman out of the ground floor flat but she succumbed to her injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh responded along with other emergency services to an address in Ferry Road at around 1.10am on Thursday 3rd December following reports of a fire.

“A 53-year-old woman died as a result and inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing.”
