Police are appealing for witnesses following a number of bogus caller incidents in Newtongrange.
A man attended several addresses in the Suttislea area on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 December claiming to be taking part in a local sporting event to raise money for a cancer charity.
The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8inches tall, with a slim build. He had a Scottish accent, gaunt appearance, and mid-length brown hair that was swept to the side. He was wearing a dark mid-length jacket and dark skinny jeans.
Sergeant Stuart Aitchison said: “Our enquiries have established that these are bogus caller incidents, and we’re appealing to any members of the local community with information that can assist with our investigation to get in touch.
“I’d like to remind all residents to be wary of unknown or unexpected callers. Don’t ever feel embarrassed by asking for identification, as legitimate callers will be happy to provide you with this. If you unsure of a caller, or are made to feel threatened or intimidated, ask them to leave and contact a trusted friend, relative or police.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
