Police have recovered a large quantity of Class A drugs as part of enforcement activity aimed at tackling serious and organised crime.
Detectives from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit stopped a Ford Transit van on the A702, near Lamington in Lanarkshire on Wednesday 21st August where a quantity of cocaine was recovered within.
Two men were subsequently detained and drugs warrants were then executed at addresses in Newton Village, Midlothian and Carnbee End, Edinburgh.
As a result of this activity, diamorphine and cannabis were found along with other drug paraphernalia at the Edinburgh property, while cocaine and an unidentified brown powder were seized from the address in Midlothian.
The total value of the recovered drugs is estimated at this time to be around £70,000.
The men aged 25 and 20 were both charged and appeared at Lanark Sheriff Court yesterday.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Shearer from Police Scotland’s OCCTU said: “We have recovered a substantial quantity of drugs, which were undoubtedly due for distribution within communities throughout Edinburgh and Midlothian. “
This activity was carried out as a result of vital intelligence from the public and demonstrates our readiness to act on information to tackle all forms of organised crime.
