Legislation to put the Scottish Fiscal Commission on a statutory footing has today been published by the Scottish Parliament.
The Bill, put forward by the Scottish Government, contains provisions to establish the Commission formally as an independent Non-Ministerial Department, a public body at arms length from Scottish Ministers and responsible to The Scottish Parliament. It sets out the remit and responsibilities of the Commission.
Lady Susan Rice, Chair of the Commission, said: “I’m pleased that the Scottish Fiscal Commission Bill has now been introduced to the Scottish Parliament. This important legislation will set out in statue the functions it performs and formalise the Commission’s independence from Scottish Ministers.”
The Bill will now be considered by the Scottish Parliament.
The current Commissioners are Lady Susan Rice CBE, Chair, Professor Andrew Hughes Hallett and Professor Campbell Leith.
