Today in Edinburgh local officers are teaming up with national Police Scotland resources to support an Operation RAC day of action focused on crime prevention.
Eight officers from the national Community Safety Unit will assist local colleagues to promote vital crime prevention advice and information to local communities across the Capital.
Since the re-launch of Operation RAC in April, local officers have received numerous requests from the public to carry out free home security surveys.
The extra resources will help undertake these assessments and offer homeowners specific information on safeguarding their personal possessions.
In addition, these officers will also help bolster local community policing teams as they engage with a number of businesses and members of the public at various locations within Edinburgh, including Ratho, South Gyle, Fountainbridge, city centre and the Southside, to offer crime prevention and home security information.
Chief Superintendent Mark Williams, Divisional Commander for the City of Edinburgh said: “Reducing break-in’s across the capital is my number one priority and these security surveys are a really effective way of giving out simple but effective advice.
“Today our colleagues from the national Community Safety Unit will join local officers as part of Operation RAC. There’s a great deal the public can do to make it tough for criminals and I’d appeal to householders to get in touch with us direct for a survey or or go to www.scotland.police.uk where they can get advice and help.”
