The Edinburgh Reporter was on the roof of the Balmoral earlier today with a large group of BA employees as well as staff from Menzies the handling agent at Edinburgh Airport all dressed in vintage BA uniforms.

The very important package of old uniforms was flown to Edinburgh Airport this morning. These iconic outfits from the British Airways Heritage Centre represent an era of elegance, style and glamour in uniform design, created by designers such Hardy Aimes, John Cavanagh, Roland Klein and Julian McDonald.

Following a fashion parade at Edinburgh Airport for the airline’s charity partner Flying Start and Comic Relief, the models were whisked into the city centre for a fashion shoot at the Balmoral Hotel – showcasing the classic uniforms in a stunning, uniquely Edinburgh, setting.

We met Jim Davies, Curator at the British Airways Heritage Centre who explained that the uniforms date from the Second World War onwards and are housed at the Speedbird Centre.

We also met Jamie Loudon who manages BA at Edinburgh Airport and Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport David Wilson who explained they had organised the event to raise money for BA’s partner charity, Flying Start.
