Police are appealing for information following an assault and robbery on South Bridge which took place around 3.30am last Saturday when a 35 year old man was walking from the Jazz Bar on Chambers Street onto South Bridge to catch the night bus home.
He was approached on South Bridge by the suspects who informed him that they worked for the police. They showed him a plastic ID card and then asked to see the victim’s ID. As he took out his wallet one of the suspects took it from his hand, while the other tried to take his bag.
The two suspects made off southward from South Bridge and he was assisted by a female passer-by.
Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area of Chambers Street and South Bridge at around 3.30am on Saturday morning to contact police.
The victim , who is Asian, was wearing a dark jacket and white trousers and carrying a laptop bag.
The first suspect is described as white, with short dark hair, early 30’s, approx 5ft 10in tall, and wearing a water proof black jacket, blue jeans, and beige timberland style boots.
The second suspect is described as white, with short dark hair, early 30’s, approx 5ft 10in tall and wearing a sports jacket or blazer, blue jeans, and dark shoes with white soles.
Detective Constable Christopher Harding said: “The suspects not only imitated police officers but also took advantage of a man who was making his way home after a night out. Anyone who recognises the description of the suspects, or was in the area at the time, is urged to come forward to police.”
