Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a Honda car on the M8 westbound just after junction 4, which happened around 12.30pm this afternoon (Sunday).
The Honda left the road and struck a tree trapping the driver, who was the sole occupant, within the vehicle. The 30 year old man was later cut free from the wreckage.
The man received serious injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he remains in a serious condition.
The road was closed for a short period of time while road traffic police carried out an investigation before both lanes were fully opened.
Sergeant Neil Inglis said: “We are seeking witnesses to this road traffic collision and anyone who was on the M8 westbound in this area around 12.30pm, who saw the vehicle or collision, is urged to contact police.”
