TER Garden of Remembrance 32

If you have a family member who fought in the First World War then you might be able to find out more about him by watching this Gazette video which is designed to encourage you to find your hero and share the results with your friends and family.

The Gazette is 350 years old and is the UK’s official public record where there are millions of state legal and military notices to be found, including military promotions and medals.

We reported to you earlier in the week the memorial board which has been put up in Baronscourt Park to the memory of Royal High School pupils, including two who were awarded the Victoria Cross.

If you find any notable mentions of Edinburgh people then do let us know!

Janine Eves, Gazettes Business and Operations Director says: “We wanted a visual way of linking to the heroics of the front-line and to give them a modern-day twist. That’s why we felt our video should start with our leading man carrying out a simple search on www.thegazette.co.uk, before he’s transported back 100 years to France and into his ancestor’s boots.”

“Our video not only demonstrates the courage of those who went to war, it ends with a powerful message – that although those who fought at the front may no longer be with us, their memories live on in our digital archive. As The Gazette is completely free to search, we want to encourage everyone to log on to the website and see if they can find their hero, and share their military service with family and friends through our social sharing tools.”
