Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Sunday 12th October.

The 33 year old man was driving a black cab on London Road near to the Omni Centre about 4am, when he was flagged down by 2 young men, who got into the taxi.

However, two other men and a woman then pulled the original two male passengers out of the taxi and assaulted the taxi driver, causing serious injuries.

A 34 year old man and a 28 year old woman have been arrested and charged with assault and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow. However police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Kevin Tait said: “This was a violent and unprovoked assault, which we are treating as racist, and which has left the victim badly injured and requiring treatment at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

“We would appeal to the males who were ejected from the taxi by the suspects to contact police on 101, and to any taxi drivers or other passers-by who may have witnessed the incident.”
