You might be forgiven  for thinking you are seeing things this morning anywhere between Princes Street Gardens and the Meadows.

David Lloyd Leisure has sponsored a giant tennis ball which will be rolled along between the two parks.

The fluorescent tennis ball is four meters in diameter and has been created by David Lloyd Leisure, the tennis group, to mark their role as official fitness partner for Sport Relief. When we saw it first thing this morning it was being held down by ropes and two burly chaps hanging on to it for dear life. After today it goes to Liverpool and Birmingham.

You are invited to have fun and help roll the ball over a Sport Relief mile while donating any change to the charity.

As part of their involvement in Sport Relief, David Lloyd Leisure’s 78 clubs across the country will be hosting a series of fundraising initiatives.

Hugh Cameron, General Manager at Edinburgh David Lloyd Leisure, said: “Sport Relief is one of those great occasions when the UK comes together for a good cause. Our Clubs around the country are very excited about being part of this fantastic initiative, which raises money to give extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and throughout the world a helping hand to turn their lives around.

“David Lloyd Leisure is passionate about helping families lead healthy, active lives and, of course, we have an incredibly strong tennis heritage, so we thought the giant tennis ball was a great way to involve our members, team members and the public in Sport Relief. We hope that it helps raise a lot of money – and also raises many smiles along the way.”

The giant tennis ball will make its way back to London at the end of this week.
