Police Scotland is appealing for information following a fatal road collision on the City Bypass.
The incident happened around 7.20pm yesterday (Thursday) on the eastbound carriageway at the Straiton Junction.
A 47-year-old man was walking on the roadway when he was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Insignia, which stopped and remained at the scene.
Emergency services responded and the road was closed for around four and a half hours.
The man suffered serious injuries and died while being taken to hospital.
Road Policing Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.
Sergeant Brian Jones said: “We are currently trying to establish why the man was on foot and what he was doing on the carriageway and we are keen to hear from motorists who were on the road at the time.
“Similarly anyone with any further information relevant to our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
