Police in Edinburgh have released CCTV images of two people they wish to trace in connection with their enquiries into a serious assault last year.

The incident happened around 2.45am on Saturday 22nd December in the city centre.

A 23-year-old private hire driver had just dropped a fare off close to the junction of St Andrew Square and George Street when his silver Skoda Octavia was approached and he was assaulted.

Officers are keen to trace the male and female pictured within the CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

Detective Constable James Philp said: “The male and female pictured in the CCTV are of interest to our enquiries and anyone who can assist officers in tracing them is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with any other information relating to this incident is also asked to come forward.”
