An assessment is ongoing regarding damage caused to the much loved Gorgie Farm following a large fire which was reported shortly before 6pm on Wednesday 24 July. 

Smoke could be seen from some distance. 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed that they were made aware at 5.59pm of a fire within a commercial building. 

Four appliances and one high reach was sent to the scene. 

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. 

Edinburgh Council chiefs have released a joint statement with the Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations’ Council (EVOC) following the blaze. 

Culture and Communities Convener, Councillor Val Walker and EVOC’s Convenor, Diarmaid Lawlor said: “We’d like to sincerely thank the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for attending the fire at the Gorgie Farm site yesterday evening and  

“This must have been a distressing incident for local residents. We’re glad that no injuries have been reported and that the fire crews were able to contain the fire to the stable block. 

“We’ll now assess the damage at the site and work to determine the best way forward for this much loved community farm.
