Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray is also the Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland and in that capacity he visited the site of the new Ardgowan Distillery at Inverkip on Friday.
There he met representatives from the Scotch Whisky Association and the Ardgowan management team as well as principal contractor Muir Construction to see for himself the distillery site where the building is now taking shape.
Mr Murray said: “This whole project is really a key part of what the UK Labour Government wants to do if we’re fortunate enough to win the election later on this year.
“And that’s investing in local businesses giving jobs and creating jobs where people want to live looking at our jewels in the crown and backing those winners, helping and supporting businesses to create those jobs and skills of the future. And all of that is happening on this site here, right in the heart of Inverclyde.
“So it’s really, really important to have that investment to have that government backing for those kinds of projects and to making sure that there’s a confidence in the economy so that companies can go ahead and make that investment. And this when it comes from picture to actually being physically built will really be a key example of what can be achieved with governments, local authorities and businesses and entrepreneurs working together to make it happen.”
Mr Murray was accompanied on the visit by Cllr Martin McCluskey who will be a Scottish Labour candidate in the Inverclyde constituency in the next General Election.
