Scotland’s cricketers have been handed the chance to re-create one of the greatest results in the nation’s sporting history.

Captain Richie Berrington’s men have landed in a section with defending champions England – whom they memorably defeated at The Grange in 2018 – when taking part in the world twenty:20 finals  in June.

The draw, revealed today, also pairs them with Australia the day after our footballers kick off the Euros against hosts Germany..

The Scots will also face Namibia and Oman in a qualifying group based in the West Indies although USA is also being used to host matches.

First up are England on June 4 in Barbados followed by Namibia on June 6 at the same venue. The Oman clash takes place in Antigua on June 9 with the Aussies to be confronted in St Lucia on 15 June.

Two teams qualify from the group. The final will be on June 29.

Captain Berrington said: “It’s a great draw for us to play, in England and Australia, two of the best teams in the world. especially at a World Cup as well. Namibia and Oman are two excellent sides as well, which we’ve had great battles with over the years, so I’m sure it will be a really exciting group.

“If you have a good day anything is possible. As a squad, we want to keep building on the success we’ve had, particularly in T20 cricket, so this is another great opportunity for us to do this on the world stage.

“The game against England in 2018 was a special day for everyone involved, and I think for everyone in Scottish cricket. It was one of the best atmospheres I’ve been involved in during my career with Scotland, to have the crowd behind us like that at home.

“It’ll be an exciting game for us first up in the group, and hopefully we’ll get a few people travelling out to the Caribbean to support us as well, so it should be a great occasion against the defending champions.”
