Hibs’ summer signing Alex Gogic has been called up for international duty with Cyprus after an impressive start to his Easter Road career.

The 26-year-old midfielder who has been an ever present for high-flying Hibs has has caught the eye of new Cyprus national coach Johan Walem.

Cyprus have Nations League fixtures with Montenegro and Azerbaijan next month .

He has previously won caps at under-19 and 21 level but hasn’t featured since he played for Swansea City.

Gogic is the son of one Cyprus’ best players, Sinisa Gogic, who won 38 caps and won numerous titles in his homeland before earning a big money move to Greece.

Speaking after Hibs recent victory over Dundee United, Gogic said: “There is a new Cyprus manager and fingers crossed, there is some good news. It would be an honour. I’ve never been called up by the first team. I think for every player to play for their national team, to represent their team is an honour.”
