Cobbinshaw Angling Association host an open day on Sunday, July 5 (11am to 5pm) as they target new members.
The member’s only rainbow trout fishery is a fly only facility which currently stocks around 13,000 fish a year at a minimum weight of around two pounds.
There are larger fish grown on in cages for stocking later in the season and the club claim they have some of the best facilities in Scotland.
Visitors will see the pontoon and harbour which offer easy access to the club club’s 22 Coulam 16 boats, all with 4HP motors, nets and drogues.
The tour includes the members cabin, work shed and toilet facilities and visitors will have an opportunity to meet keepers, officials and some members.
An attraction is the offer to fish for three hours free as a guest on a catch and release basis.
Fly tying demonstrations and refreshments will be provided and if the day is very busy free fishing can be organised at a later date to suit.
Memberships of the association, which has been in operation over 100 years, are available this season.
So, where is Cobbinshaw? The loch lies south of West Calder and is accessed from a side road off the main road running from West Calder to Woolfords/Woolford Cottages. The post code is EH55 8LQ.
