The Staggs Bar Monarchs have been boosted by taking a valuable point at SGB Championship leaders Leicester Lions in a 47-42 defeat in the Midlands.

The catalyst to the improved performance was the comeback of Sam Masters who raced to a 15-point maximum.

Sam and the squad are in action at Armadale against Somerset Rebels on Friday (tapes-up 7.30pm) and Monarchs team boss John Campbell said that Masters made a big difference.

“Sam was majestic. I actually thought we were going to win the match at one point, but the track dried off a little and the home riders got dialled in.

“To come to the league leaders and make them use a tactical (substitute) and get a point I’m happy with.”

Second-placed Glasgow Tigers will not face Newcastle Diamonds on Friday as their schedued SGB Championship match has been postponed.
