Bertie’s Restaurant and Bar are celebrating National Fish & Chip day – a whole day devoted to fried fish teamed with chips and lashings of chippy sauce!

Today gives Scots up and down the country the chance to celebrate a favourite dish and the quality work that has gone into making it the national staple that it is today.

Bertie’s Restaurant and Bar along with fish and chip shops from across the UK are taking part in the day’s special activities to honour the event.

Bertie’s on Victoria Street in the Edinburgh’s Old Town offers a proper fish supper – and has been serving fresh fish and chips to Edinburgh locals and visitors alike since its grand opening in January.

Today they’re asking customers to come together to celebrate Britain’s best-loved fast food by tucking in to a portion of sizzling fish and chips and sharing it online using #nationalfishandchipday

Bertie’s General Manger, Leandro Crolla said : “I think we would all agree that nothing beats a portion of fresh white fish fried in hot, crispy batter, served with a portion of lip-smacking chips – the only debate is whether you top it with salt, vinegar, chippy sauce, mushy peas or curry sauce.

“In celebration of National Fish & Chip Day on Friday June 7, we are encouraging our guests to join us for proper fish and chips at Bertie’s on Victoria Street and tuck into a good old-fashioned Friday fish supper.”

This Friday’s event is National Fish & Chip Day’s fourth year, bringing together everyone from fish and chip shops, restaurants and retailers, to the fisherman and farmers who provide the sustainable and natural ingredients with this year’s celebrations expected to be the biggest one yet.

Bertie’s Restaurant and Bar is open Sunday – Thursday from 12pm – 10pm and Friday and Saturday from 12noon- 11.00pm. For bookings, www.bertiesfishandchips.com
