It is always good news to hear of new businesses making their home in Edinburgh, but this is particularly good news as will be a new independent bookshop for all of us to explore.
Topping & Company already have bookshops in Ely, Bath and St Andrews and are now branching out with a 4,000 square feet shop in Blenheim Place. In the William Playfair Grade A listed building they will stock 70,000 books in their specially handcrafted bookcases. There will be complimentary tea and coffee on offer with plenty of ‘friendly bookish advice’ too.
Topping & Company hold book festivals all year round and they plan to host novelists, politicians, comedians, chefs, and more in their new shop. The programme will be announced later this year.
Robert Topping who began the chain with his wife Louise worked with Tim Waterstone in the early days before being sacked (as Tim put it) for stocking too many good books.
