Police have identified the human bones discovered at Pollock Halls of Residence last month were from a 50-year-old man from the Scottish Borders.

Scientists examined an area in front of the Fraser Court block on Dalkeith Road after the scene was cordoned off.

Officers have said that there were no suspicious circumstances and the deceased’s family have been informed.

His name has not been made public at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following scientific examination, the remains found at Pollock Halls in Edinburgh on 26th September have now been identified.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who was in his 50s and from the Scottish Borders.

“His family have been informed.”
