Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault which took place  around 12.50pm on Saturday afternoon within the park near Niddry Road, Winchburgh.

A 41-year-old man was walking his dog in the area when he was confronted by a group of youths and a verbal altercation ensued.

At this time the victim was attacked from behind and sustained a number of wounds to his head, shoulder, hands and legs.

He was able to make off from the suspects and returned home before contacting and ambulance.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.

“At this time we don’t have a description of the group and we would ask anyone else who was in the area and witnessed this incident to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, any passing motorists who may have relevant dash-cam footage of the attack, or those responsible should also get in touch.”
