Danny Swanson has signed for St Johnstone following his release from Hibs last night.

The 31-year-old has signed a two-year-deal at McDiarmid Park returning for his third spell in Perth.

He featured 21 times in all competitions for Hibs during the 2017/18 campaign and scored in the Betfred Cup Quarter Final at home to Livingston, helping the side reach the last four of the competition, with injury restricting his involvement with the team.

This season, the attacking-midfielder played four times for the club and featured in our UEFA Europa League run and the opening two league matches of the campaign.

A statement on the Hibernian website reads: “Everyone at Hibernian would like to thank Danny for his services to the club and wish him nothing but the best for the future.”

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright told the club’s official website this morning.”I’m really pleased to have him back here,”

“Obviously, he was freed by Hibs last night and as soon as we knew that the chairman acted really quickly to bring Danny back to the club.

“It’s another great piece of business for us and I’m over the moon to add him to what is already a very strong squad.

“Danny is a player that needs no introduction to the fans. They know exactly what his qualities are and what he’s capable of.

“I’ve always felt that Danny has been at his happiest here and that he’s played his best football at this club. It’s my job to make sure I get the best out of him again.

“Competition for places has never been higher and at the top end of the pitch we’re looking really strong. It’s my task now to manage that because not everybody can play every week.

“If the club wants to be successful we need to have healthy competition. We’ve now got great strength in depth and we’re looking forward to an exciting season ahead.”
