There were two street parties in the Edinburgh area yesterday, one in the appropriately named village of Markle in East Lothian and the other in Buckstone.

There they closed the street, put out the tables and had a party in the sun to celebrate the Royal Wedding.

Local councillor Scott Arthur was delighted.  He said :  “I am proud that one of the street parties is in my Ward.”

It seems that the street party did not involve or indeed please everyone. But then monarchy and politics are often divisive subjects on social media. When @MrMalky (who sports a saltire on his Twitter profile) tweeted to berate Cllr Arthur for attending a street party for which he alleged there was no licence, and suggesting deportation for those involved, the Labour councillor replied : “This is what civic nationalism looks like folks. People having a good time are attacked with fake news and threats of deportation. Utterly shameful.”
