Glasgow Tigers were “gutted” after Edinburgh sealed their place in the quarter-final against Berwick Bandits in the Knockout Cup after a 14-point swing in eight races.

The home team skidded out in the first round after claiming only one heat winner in the last eight heats.

And fired-up Monarchs overcame the early loss of American rookie Max Ruml to injury and an 11-point deficit on the day to stun their opponents with a 46-43 win (92-87 on aggregate).

Only one of the Tigers septet hit double figures. Claus Vissing scored 10 – as the other heat leaders had days to forget.

Reserve Jack Thomas who scored six points and three bonus points and the 19-year-old admitted: “Edinburgh pushed us to the last race on Friday (at Armadale) and they did the same again today.

“They’re a good team and a lot of their lads are quite good round here.

“It’s a shame we lost, it’s gutting really, but we gave it our best and we put up a good battle.”

Glasgow’s focus now returns to Championship business when they welcome Scunthorpe Scorpions to Ashfield on Friday at 7.30pm.
