Glasgow Tigers confirmed that their scheduled Championship Shield clash with Workington Comets at Ashfield on Friday is off because of a waterlogged track.

Tigers are scheduled to make the trip to Workington on Saturday (7pm) in the same competition.

KLS Berwick Bandits can’t wait to get on track after back-to-back rain-offs against Newcastle Diamonds in the Tyne/Tweed Trophy last weekend.

The Borders outfit, powered by Mike Hope of Wooler, are due to host The Staggs Bar Edinburgh Monarchs at Shielfield Park on Saturday (7pm) in the Championship Shield.

And Scott Courtney, Bandits’ co-owner, said Monarchs are a strong side.
The Riss brothers, Eric and Mark, plus Ricky Wells, backed up Matt

Williamson and Josh Pickering, he said, mean Bandits will have their work cut out in their first match of the year.

Courtney said: “Bandits, led by skipper Kevin Doolan, are champing at the bit to get out of the traps.

“They will race their hearts out for the Bandits and with the support roaring from the terracing, maybe the Monarchs will return to Armadale pointless.”
